DARK SKIES INITATIVES
Midas Gold Idaho has also undertaken a number of initiatives to reduce environmental impacts, such as our Dark Skies initiative to lead the way in how industry can help reduce light pollution and protect one of Idaho’s most valuable resources—our brilliant night sky.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
At Stibnite, we have invested in sustainable practices to help the legacy site where we can. For example, we installed solar panels to produce much of our power generation needs on site and have planted nearly 60,000 trees to help reduce erosion and stabilize habitat. Plan of Restoration & Operations (“PRO”)
In 2016, Midas Gold Idaho filed its plan of operations, as defined by the US Forest Service, which we renamed as the Plan of Restoration and Operations to better reflect our objectives. This document more comprehensively sets out our ESG principles and objectives.
The Executive Summary summarizes Midas Gold’s core values and conservation guidance principles (Section ES.4), Restoration and Mitigation plans (Section ES.7), restoration and mitigation principles (Section ES.8), restoration and reclamation objectives (Section ES.19).
- These matters are discussed in more detail in Section 2 of the PRO, while the restoration and mitigation impacts are discussed in more detail in Section 5.
- As part of its assessment process for the project, Midas Gold Idaho also went through an extensive alternatives analysis based on environmental outcomes, technical feasibility and economic consequences, which process and outcomes are detailed in Appendix G of the PRO.
- However, we did not stop there but, during the ongoing regulatory review, made a number of changes to the project to reduce environmental impacts, called the Modified PRO (or ModPRO).
